Cycle: v3/application_capacity_study Debug mode: enabled (project marker, inherited snapshot for this new plan) Entry: 2026-10-30 UTC, Step 1 handoff
Necessary/useful instructions
Source: Step 1, Original Query/Understood Intent and review boundaries. Observation: Identified the parent QDB assessment explicitly so its Option C is not confused with automated detection in the separate selection audit. Kept a request to write a plan separate from approval to run the study. Suggestion: Retain explicit parent links and scope boundaries.
Source: RAILSPIKE.md, effort-estimation exposure and stable IDs. Observation: Preserved the parent Option C estimate as inherited and recorded a separate current projection. Reusing completed probes does not create duplicate discoveries or accepted outcomes. Suggestion: Retain source/exposure fields and separate parent/expansion accounting.
Redundant/unnecessary instructions
No supported findings.
Inapplicable instructions
Source: Step 4 stage commits and runtime verification. Observation: No measurement campaign or application changes were authorized by this planning request. Suggestion: Apply those gates only after the relevant plan approvals.
Uncertain assessments
Source: Step 1, whole-cycle projections. Observation: Local synthetic coverage can be defined now, but actual host concurrency and worker limits remain unknown. Suggestion: Keep unavailable host evidence explicit and revise scope before any host-specific work.

Step 2 handoff — 2026-10-31 UTC
Necessary/useful instructions
Source: step2_feature_description.md, delivery/completion boundaries and known environment. Observation: Defined documentation-only measurements with disposable harnesses and separated PHP/FastCGI host evidence from local results; retained ordinary-entry and retry acceptance. Suggestion: Keep these evidence boundaries in Step 3.
Source: RAILSPIKE.md, study restoration and shared-component reuse. Observation: Verified all frozen hashes and retained original baseline/estimate while recognizing subsequent fixes and existing probes; the existing k6 script does not authorize installing a dependency. Suggestion: Pin current measurement revisions without rewriting inherited evidence.
Redundant/unnecessary instructions
No supported findings.
Inapplicable instructions
Source: CONTRIBUTING.md, UI and read-model schema verification. Observation: Requirements-only edits do not change either surface; runtime checks do not apply at this handoff. Suggestion: Apply relevant flow checks when executing the approved investigation.
Uncertain assessments
Source: Step 2 risk and effort requirements. Observation: Host availability and representative workload coverage remain unresolved; the report must narrow its envelope accordingly. Suggestion: Resolve local matrix and stop conditions before dependent execution; retain unavailable host evidence as a gap.

Step 3 handoff — 2026-10-31 UTC
Necessary/useful instructions
Source: step3_development_plan_do.md, Completion Contract and stage dependencies. Observation: Seven stages assign common isolation/measurement work to S1 and consolidation to S7; normal HTTP/CLI entry, parity and interruption recovery accompany each family rather than relying on internal probes alone. Suggestion: Keep stage evidence within the approved documentation boundary.
Source: step3_development_plan_after.md, known environment acceptance and approval gating. Observation: Actual PHP 8.3/FastCGI remains unavailable; S3 supplies a replay/retry handoff and S6 cannot infer concurrency from a serialized server. No host recovery is claimed. Suggestion: Retain explicit host gaps through closeout.
Redundant/unnecessary instructions
No supported findings.
Inapplicable instructions
Source: step3_development_plan_do.md, database/function-signature design. Observation: This investigation changes no runtime contracts or schema, so signatures and migrations are inapplicable. Suggestion: Keep runtime remedies as separate follow-ups.
Uncertain assessments
Source: step3_development_plan_after.md, stage sizing and compactness. Observation: Required per-stage verification and risk fields make this seven-family plan longer than a literal printed page. Runtime sample duration and fixture setup may exceed an hour despite bounded cases; size is a planning judgment, not measured work. Suggestion: Preserve explicit evidence requirements; enforce the day/eight-stage ceiling and return to scope review if representative coverage cannot fit, rather than silently extending execution or claiming unrun cases passed.

Step 4 completed handoff — 2026-11-01 UTC
Necessary/useful instructions
Source: Step 4 normal-entry, risk and evidence boundaries. Observation: Ordinary rebuild reproduced the 40000-record 128 MiB failure; real HTTP showed 72 MiB pages at 10000 records. Activation, signed/image retry, offline import resume and concurrent readers provided evidence that direct-method probes alone did not establish. Explicit family dispositions prevented local results from becoming host guarantees. Suggestion: Preserve separate interpreter allocation, sampled process memory, physical I/O, result parity and actual host evidence.
Source: Staged commit cadence and source-preserving verification. Observation: Planning e22df83f precedes summary/implementation; S1–S7 each include summary updates. S7 c66a1c15 plus corrective 69157346 preserve all history. Final cumulative whitespace check exposed raw-log trailing whitespace missed by earlier unstaged checks; 25 display archives were normalized with raw/normalized hashes, verified against c66a1c15. No raw evidence was lost from history. No amendment or squash. Suggestion: Include new/untracked artifacts in staged/cumulative checks before recording a pass, and stop shell sequences on failed gates.
Source: Isolation and recovery gates. Observation: Import supervisor starts setsid children, invalidating process-group-only RSS/termination assumptions. Retained initial failed attempt and repeated with descendant supervision. Final archive setup/read replay passed in a fresh workspace. Both temporary workspaces were removed after checks; no remaining process referenced the main workspace. Final main scratch size was 642375680 bytes before removal. Signing source now uses ephemeral checked loopback ports. Suggestion: Inspect subprocess topology before claiming aggregate memory or interruption coverage; preserve invalidated attempts explicitly.
Redundant/unnecessary instructions
No supported findings.
Inapplicable instructions
Source: UI/theme/icon, deployment, schema and external dependency checks. Observation: Deliverable is scoped documentation/probe evidence, with no application/test/configuration/schema/dependency changes. These product-change checks are inapplicable. Normal-flow claims still received HTTP/CLI verification; full application suite was not run. Suggestion: Keep evidence-specific verification proportional without implying full-suite acceptance.
Uncertain assessments
Source: Matrix completion and actual user/environment recovery. Observation: Explicit deferrals retain long threads, reaction/pin density, large commits, provider execution, maximum images, long soak and actual PHP 8.3/FastCGI capacity. Prior user-reported QDB activation (314.961 seconds, 5253 HTML and 53 assets) is preserved separately from this unverified host replay. Timing phases were not interleaved; faster overlap samples do not establish a speedup. Suggestion: Require targeted follow-up evidence before making operational limits or production recovery claims.
Study: R1/P2, original v1/B baseline and 0.90 projection retained; independent retrospective scope judgment 1.00 by the same exposed rater, not an independent rating or measured effort. Maintainer comfortable-fit/acceptance pending. No accepted-count increment, external upload, merge, push or deployment. Final state: Report and seven-stage bounded investigation complete with explicit failures/deferrals. Nine cycle commits before this required debug-only handoff commit. Unrelated pre-existing ledger whitespace and historical host update remain uncommitted; no substantive unrelated changes included.
