Stage 1 - Site description and build example on About

  • Changes:

    • ProfilePresentationContent.php: the zenmemes editorial entry gains siteDescription and buildExample. A new siteDescription(array $profile): string returns the sentence, or an empty string for profiles without one. about() passes both through.

    • templates/pages/about.php: the intro section shows the description, then the example with "Read the thread" and "See the change" links, then the existing intro paragraph. Each part renders only when present.

    • tests/PresentationProfileMatrixTest.php: new test checks that only zenmemes shows the description and example, in that order, with both links.

  • Verification:

    • ./v3 test --smoke PresentationProfileMatrixTest: 431 run, 431 passed. Full suite not run, per AGENTS.md.

    • Example thread thread-20261103060933-51ef9554 (Deploy page request by ilyag, Nov 3) has a reply linking PR #26; PR #26 is merged at the baseline (822d6134).

  • Notes:

    • Wording and example were chosen by Claude because the maintainer approved Step 3 without picking them. Description: "zenmemes is a garage where people and agents build this site together, starting from threads." Both are one-line edits if the maintainer prefers others.

    • Reuse: extended the existing per-profile copy store; no new store or template.

  • Estimate details: original scope as Step 3 Stage 1; no revision; retrospective lower because the copy store already had the right shape.

Stage 2 - Site description leads /llms.txt

  • Changes:

    • LlmsTxtRenderer: two optional constructor arguments, site name and site description. With both, the file opens with # <name>, the description as the quote line, then the existing Git and OpenPGP sentence. Without them, the opening is unchanged.

    • Application::renderLlmsTxt() passes the active profile's display name and ProfilePresentationContent::siteDescription().

    • tests/LlmsTxtRendererTest.php: new test for both openings; the generic sentence appears exactly once.

  • Verification:

    • ./v3 test --smoke LlmsTxtRendererTest PresentationProfileMatrixTest: 443 run, 443 passed. Full suite not run.

    • Local server with FORUM_SITE_ID=zenmemes: /llms.txt opens with # zenmemes and the description.

Stage 3 - First-visit intro on the home page

    • templates/partials/visitor_intro.php (new): one card with the site description and an About link; renders nothing when the profile has no description. It is a partial because zenmemes uses board_list.php and other profiles use board.php; both include it at the top.

    • TemplateRenderer: shares siteDescription with every template, beside composerPrompt.

    • templates/layout.php head script: sets data-visitor="known" before paint when the browser has a saved identity (the same forum_pki_* check the member script uses) or forum_visitor_intro_hidden is 1. Wrapped in try/catch; on failure the intro stays visible.

    • public/assets/site.css: hides [data-visitor-intro] under data-visitor="known".

    • tests/PresentationProfileMatrixTest.php: only zenmemes renders the intro, above the composer; every profile carries the head check.

  • Verification:

    • ./v3 test --smoke PresentationProfileMatrixTest BoardListTest: 432 run, 432 passed. Full suite not run.

    • Headless Chrome against a local zenmemes server, at 390 and 1280 px, recording the intro's computed display when it is first parsed: fresh browser block; saved identity none with data-visitor="known"; hidden flag none. No flash for members.

    • Phone screenshot in the light theme: the card sits above the board controls and reads cleanly.

    • Step 3 named board.php; inspection showed zenmemes renders board_list.php, so the shared partial replaces a single-template edit. Same scope.

    • npm install --no-save restored the declared playwright-core dev dependency locally for the browser check; no dependency change.

Stage 4 - Hide control

  • Changes:

    • templates/partials/visitor_intro.php: a Hide button. A small inline script sets data-visitor="known" at once and stores forum_visitor_intro_hidden=1, inside try/catch.

    • public/assets/site.css: the card lays out the sentence and the button side by side. The button keeps its own width, because some theme button styles stretch to full width.

    • tests/PresentationProfileMatrixTest.php: the zenmemes board carries the button and the storage write.

  • Verification:

    • ./v3 test --smoke PresentationProfileMatrixTest: 432 run, 432 passed. Full suite not run.

    • Headless Chrome at 390 px: Hide removes the card; it stays hidden after reload.

    • With localStorage throwing: the card shows, Hide removes it for the page, it returns after reload, and the composer still renders. The one SecurityError on load also occurs at the planning baseline (1517b499); it does not come from the intro.

    • Saving an identity writes forum_pki_*, which the Stage 3 check already treats as known (verified there with seeded keys).

    • The first layout attempt squeezed the sentence into one column at phone width; fixed before commit and rechecked by screenshot.

Stage 5 - Release checks and concepts

  • Changes:

    • docs/concepts/site_description.md and docs/concepts/visitor_intro.md (new), with source links checked.

  • Verification:

    • Theme matrix, headless Chrome against a local zenmemes server: all 13 themes (light, dark, console, lcd, chicago, vapor, forge, sticker, arena, thermal, whitehot, word97, midnight) at 390 and 1280 px. The intro rendered in every case with no horizontal overflow, and the text and Hide were readable. Contact sheets were reviewed by eye.

    • Other profiles: PresentationProfileMatrixTest renders the board and About for every registered profile, including the fourth-profile fixture. Only zenmemes shows the description, example and intro.

    • Final diff review of 1517b499..HEAD: 14 files, all within the approved scope, with no debug leftovers.

    • Deployment to zenmemes.com: pending. It needs the branch merged and deployed by the maintainer, then a check in a fresh phone browser and a member browser.

    • Full suite not run, per AGENTS.md.

  • Notes: none.

  • Estimate details: original scope as Step 3 Stage 5, minus the live deploy check, which is pending, not done.

Follow-up - Hide as a small × button

Requested by the maintainer after Stage 5, as a direct change.

  • Reuse: the visible × with an aria-label, placed absolutely in the corner, follows image-upload-remove (templates/partials/image_compose_fields.php, public/assets/compose.css). The button keeps each theme's own button styling. The data-visitor-intro-hide hook and its script are unchanged.

  • Changes: templates/partials/visitor_intro.php, public/assets/site.css, tests/PresentationProfileMatrixTest.php, docs/concepts/visitor_intro.md.

  • Sizing: 24 px visible, with an invisible ::after extending the target to 44 px.

  • Corrected before finishing: clearance first sat on the card as padding, and the themes that set their own card padding ran text under the ×. It now sits on the sentence.

  • Verification:

    • ./v3 test --smoke PresentationProfileMatrixTest: 432 run, 432 passed. Full suite not run.

    • Headless Chrome against a local zenmemes server: all 13 themes at 390 and 1280 px. The × is 24 px in the top right corner, text clears it, and there is no horizontal overflow. Measured, and screenshots reviewed.

    • Touch tap in the extended target hides the card and it stays hidden after reload; keyboard Enter hides it; the button is exposed as "Hide".

    • With localStorage throwing: the card shows, × hides it for the page, and it returns after reload.

    • Deployment to zenmemes.com: still pending.

Study Closeout

2026-11-05T17:00:00Z. Delivered scope v1/B on feat/site-purpose: planning commit 1517b499 plus five stage commits. Entry projection 0.45 preserved. Retrospective scope assessment 0.42, by a single exposed Claude rater; it is not an independent rating or measured labor. Corrections inside scope: the zenmemes board template, the /llms.txt summary line and the phone layout of Hide. No new requests. Pending: live deployment check, maintainer comfortable-fit judgment and acceptance. No accepted-count change.

Status: Step 4 stages complete; deployment and maintainer review pending.
